When the Bad Guys are on the ropes, they long ago realised that a perfect segue out from under is afforded by a massive catastrophic event. It’s a device that been used to effect otherwise unacceptable policies time after time over the years and we are still wide open to the psychopathy of this tactic.
A year before the outrage of 9/11 the neocons, – yes, the very same creatures who are now crying up nuclear war as a winnable tactic, – John Bolton et al,- were involved in ensuring that the military/industrial complex of the US would get priority in massive funding going into the new century, allowing space to be militarised and the population to go along with this appropriation of funds. They observed that this would a require a transformation, and in their un official report “Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources for a New Century” we find this:
” the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor. Domestic politics and industrial policy will shape the pace and content of transformation as much as the requirements of current missions…”
